It’s surprising for some to learn, but back in the day, Mortgage Originators and Real Estate professionals didn’t buy leads like they do now from portals and Google and Facebook. They had a time tested method paired with a simple strategy – and at the time, it was almost free.
This marvel of lead generation technology, was called “The Newspaper”.
It’s true. Back in my day, every Sunday the paper would be delivered to your mailbox or on your front porch – or in my case, in a puddle. Wise mortgage and real estate folks would turn directly to the sections that mattered most to view the marriages, proposals, birth announcements, obituaries, graduations, promotions and new hires. There were even sections announcing local volunteers and local events. Old school pros knew that these life events were what caused people to move.
The savvy sales people would reach out to those they knew to congratulate or console them. And for those they didn’t know, they would actually clip the article of interest out of the paper and send it to them in the mail with a note.
Sadly, the Sunday paper has gone the way of flip phones and fidget spinners. But life events continue to cause people to move.
